CUNDA ISLAND

Cunda is the island which is a state of grace granted by God in the northwestern Aegean Sea off the coast of
Ayvalık. It has been linked to Ayvalık on the mainland by an unnatural causeway for a few years.

When seen from Ayvalık, Cunda has two straits; the left one is Dalyan Strait and the right one is Dolap Strait over which there is a bridge and this bridge is Turkey's first strait bridge as it is known.

Cunda was a district, part of Mytilene Province under the dominance of the Ottoman Empire untill 1908.While its population was approximately ten thousand people in those days, Cunda has now almost two thousand inhabitants.

In summer season, there are alternate boat trips between Cunda and Ayvalık.This voyage is a some kind of fleeting amusement for the ones who seek for relaxation.Besides, you can reach the island by land. Both ways have its own joy. When you arrive the island, if you climb up to the hills and view the scenery of the big and little islands, straits, heavenly coves and olive trees, you can hardly leave there.

Cunda's architectural carouse in the streets will make you giddy. These streets are the most appropriate places for the admirers of neo-classical architecture and the ones who dream of living in a quiet town in nature.

Do not hesitate, wander along the streets of the island. You will come across such wondrous bays that you will fully understand why old people have chosen this island to inhabit. You will get the opportunity to move away from the tiring and dirty civilization of our day.
In Cunda, surrounded by a fascinating sea and called as 'Little Paris' by visitors, watcing sunset from the coats or the hills will make you an absolute tranquil. After this great enjoyment, you can go to a restaurant on the coast and eat delicious sea food of Cunda.
